“The Sikorsky HH-3F Pelican officially entered Coast Guard service in 1968 and retired in 1993. She was the most technologically sophisticated helicopter of her day…a big twin with boat hull, rear ramp, radar, early navigation computer, Doppler Hover Coupler System, and limited hoist operator remote flight control capability. Her powerful GE turbines and 7,200 lb. fuel capacity stretched the CG’s offshore helicopter footprint to an impressive 300 nautical miles. Big at 22,050 lbs. max operating weight, she could do it all – from hoisting a dozen survivors, to hauling jeeps, ATON gear, and even landing on Navy ships!” -Mont Smith
The Hull number has a special meaning on this print as it was involved in the M/V Princedam Case.
